IELTS Writing Task 1 Two Maps

The two maps below show an island, before and after the construction of some tourist facilities.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

ANSWER
The two maps compare the outlook of an island, prior to the construction of tourist facilities to later how much it changed.

The island in the beginning was mostly comprised of free land, plantation of not many widely spaced clusters of two or three palm trees and a beach area at the western end of the island.

In the second map, the island has undergone a significant transformation; it is provided with plentiful facilities such as accommodations, voyages, restaurant, reception block, pier and activities at the beach area. Two areas are allotted for accommodation purpose, one area is almost in the middle of the island and the second is near the western coastline, each area has a circular footpath around which the accommodation units are constructed; the footpath of the western accommodation leads to the beach. The reception building is built at the central point to all the facilities, it is surrounded by a vehicle track which leads to the pier on one end in the south and the other end connects to the restaurant in the north. In addition to this, a swimming facility is also now available at the beach.

Overall, it is appreciated that originally the island was devoid of any facilities, with only few palm trees; whereas after development most of the land became well occupied by buildings and activities.
